Possible Causes

Severely clogged Flowclear filter cartridge, Dirty sand in Flowclear sand filter, Closed or partially closed return valve, Blocked return jet or hose

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off and unplug the pump before adjusting valves or opening the filter. Release pressure according to the Flowclear manual.

Steps:

  • 1. Check pressure gauge: On Flowclear sand filter systems, note if the pressure gauge is in the red zone. High pressure indicates restriction on the return side.
  • 2. Backwash or clean filter: Perform a full backwash and rinse on sand filters. For cartridge filters, remove and clean or replace the cartridge.
  • 3. Inspect return line: Check the return hose and pool return fitting for kinks, blockages, or closed valves. Ensure the Flowclear multiport valve (if fitted) is in the correct "FILTER" position.
  • 4. Retest: After restoring normal flow, plug in and restart the pump. If E12 recurs with normal pressure, the pressure/overload sensor or control PCB may be faulty.
