Possible Causes
Clogged electrolytic cell housing, Air trapped in salt cell, Low pump speed not sufficient for flow switch, Faulty salt system flow switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off and unplug the pump/salt system combo before opening the cell housing.
Steps:
- 1. Inspect cell housing: Remove the Flowclear salt cell housing cap and check for debris or scale buildup restricting flow. Clean according to the manual (often with a mild acid solution for scale).
- 2. Remove air: Ensure the housing is completely filled with water and that there are no high points in the hoses where air can accumulate.
- 3. Increase pump speed: On variable-speed models, run the pump at a higher speed to ensure adequate flow through the cell.
- 4. Check flow switch: Inspect the in-line flow switch inside the cell housing for free movement. If stuck or damaged, replace the Flowclear flow switch.
- 5. Retest: Reassemble, ensure all O-rings are seated, and restart the system. If E18 persists with strong flow, the flow switch or control PCB may be faulty.
