Pump runs but there is a strong burning or electrical smell.

Safety first: Immediately unplug the pump. Do not continue to operate a pump that smells like burning plastic or insulation.

Steps:

• 1. Visual inspection: After cooling, inspect the motor housing and control box for discoloration, melted plastic, or scorch marks.
• 2. Check vents: Clean any blocked cooling vents and ensure the pump is not covered or enclosed.
• 3. Load reduction: Clean/backwash the filter and ensure valves are open to reduce motor load.
• 4. Electrical connections: If accessible, check that all terminal screws on the Flowclear control PCB and motor are tight (with power disconnected).
• 5. Replace motor: If the smell persists or visible damage is found, replace the Flowclear motor assembly. Do not attempt to repair burnt windings.
