Possible Causes
One incoming phase open at terminal block, Loose or burned connection in Franklin Electric VFD drive, Blown input fuse on control module, Internal power stage failure in drive
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: This involves live 230/400 V circuits. If you are not qualified, contact a licensed electrician or pool technician.
- Inspect line connections: With power off, remove the drive or control box cover. Check L1, L2, and L3 terminals for loose screws, burned insulation, or discoloration. Tighten and repair as needed.
- Check upstream fuses/breakers: Verify all phases are present at the disconnect or breaker panel. Replace any blown fuses with the correct rating.
- Measure phase voltages: With power on and extreme caution, measure L1–L2, L2–L3, and L1–L3. Values should be balanced within 3–5%. Large imbalance or a missing phase must be corrected by an electrician.
- Inspect drive input fuses (if equipped): Some Franklin Electric drives have internal fuses. With power off, test continuity and replace any open fuses with OEM parts.
- If all phases are correct: A persistent E04 indicates an internal drive fault. Replace the Franklin Electric VFD/control module.
