Possible Causes
Moisture intrusion into Franklin Electric motor terminal box, Damaged motor winding insulation, Water inside control box or conduit, Nicked cable causing leakage to ground
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset a tripping GFCI or ground fault alarm. Turn off power and keep the area dry.
- Inspect for moisture: Open the motor terminal box and control enclosure. Look for condensation, standing water, or corrosion. Dry thoroughly with a clean cloth and low heat (no open flame).
- Check conduit and cable: Inspect the motor cable from the Franklin Electric drive to the motor for cuts, crushed sections, or UV damage. Replace damaged cable.
- Test insulation resistance: With a megohmmeter and power off, test each motor lead to ground. Values below manufacturer minimum indicate a failing motor.
- Check gaskets and seals: Ensure terminal box gaskets and control box seals are intact to prevent future water ingress.
- If leakage persists: Replace the motor or drive as indicated by insulation tests. Do not bypass ground fault protection.
