Possible Causes

Pool water level below skimmer, Air leak on suction side of Franklin Electric pump, Clogged suction line or skimmer basket, Faulty pressure/flow sensor to controller

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power before opening the pump lid or working on plumbing.

  • Check pool water level: Ensure water is at least halfway up the skimmer opening so the pump can draw water without sucking air.
  • Clean suction path: Empty skimmer and pump baskets. Check for obstructions in the suction line and main drain.
  • Inspect for air leaks: Examine the pump lid O-ring, drain plugs, and suction unions on the Franklin Electric pump for cracks or loose fittings. Lubricate and reseat the lid O-ring and tighten unions.
  • Re-prime the pump: Fill the pump strainer housing with water, reinstall the lid, open all valves, and start the pump. It should establish a solid prime within a minute.
  • Check sensors: If equipped with a pressure or flow sensor, inspect wiring and fittings. Replace a faulty sensor if the pump shuts down despite good flow.
