Possible Causes
Reversed polarity on RS-485 wiring, Broken communication cable between automation system and Franklin Electric controller, Incorrect address or protocol settings, Electrical noise on long communication runs
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the controller and automation system before changing wiring.
- Verify wiring: Check that A/B (or +/–) terminals on the Franklin Electric controller match the automation panel. Correct any reversed or crossed wires.
- Inspect cable: Look for cuts, crushed sections, or water ingress in the communication cable. Replace damaged cable with shielded twisted pair as recommended.
- Check settings: In the controller menu, confirm the communication address, baud rate, and protocol match the external system’s configuration.
- Reduce noise: Route communication cables away from high-voltage and motor leads. Ground the cable shield at one end only.
- Test local control: Run the pump from its local keypad. If it works locally but not via automation after wiring is corrected, the communication interface may be damaged and the control module should be replaced.
