E17
Franklin Electric Low Flow / Pressure Switch Trip

Controller shows E17 and pump stops unexpectedly; may coincide with low flow

Possible Causes

Blocked suction or return lines, Dirty filter, Faulty pressure switch or flow sensor connected to Franklin Electric controller, Air lock in pump housing

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power and relieve system pressure before opening any part of the plumbing.

  • Check and clean filter: Backwash sand or DE filters, or clean cartridge filters to restore normal pressure and flow.
  • Inspect suction and return: Ensure valves are open and lines are not obstructed. Clean skimmer and pump baskets.
  • Bleed air: Open the air relief valve on the filter to remove trapped air while the pump is running.
  • Inspect sensor: If equipped, check the pressure switch or flow sensor tubing and wiring to the Franklin Electric controller. Replace a faulty sensor that trips despite good flow.
  • Reset and test: Clear E17 and observe system pressure and flow. Persistent low-flow trips indicate a hydraulic issue that must be corrected.
