Worn ceramic/carbon shaft seal in Franklin Electric wet end, Misaligned motor and seal plate, Running pump dry causing seal overheating, Chemical imbalance attacking seal materials

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power and close suction and return valves. Relieve system pressure.

  • Disassemble pump: Remove the motor from the pump housing following Franklin Electric instructions. Access the seal plate and impeller.
  • Remove old seal: Carefully remove the rotating and stationary halves of the mechanical seal from the impeller and seal plate. Do not scratch the seal surfaces.
  • Install new seal: Press the new stationary seat into the seal plate using a clean cloth. Install the rotating half on the impeller shaft. Avoid touching polished faces with bare fingers.
  • Reassemble: Reinstall the impeller, seal plate, and motor onto the pump housing. Tighten bolts evenly.
  • Test for leaks: Restore water flow and power, then run the pump and inspect for leaks at the seal area.
