Possible Causes

Cracked or dry pump lid O-ring on Franklin Electric pump, Loose suction union fitting, Low pool water level allowing air into skimmer, Air leak at pump drain plugs

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power before opening the pump or adjusting plumbing.

  • Check water level: Ensure pool water is at least halfway up the skimmer opening.
  • Inspect and lubricate lid O-ring: Remove the Franklin Electric pump lid, clean the O-ring and groove, apply a silicone-based pool lube, and reinstall. Replace the O-ring if cracked or flattened.
  • Tighten unions and plugs: Hand-tighten suction-side unions and pump drain plugs. Do not overtighten to the point of cracking.
  • Prime the pump: Fill the pump strainer housing with water, replace the lid, open all valves, and restart the pump. Watch for a solid stream of water in the pump basket.
  • Check for persistent bubbles: If air continues to enter, use soapy water on suction joints while the pump runs to locate leaks, then repair or replace fittings.
