Harris
High System Backpressure
Pump runs but pressure at the filter gauge is much higher than normal

Possible Causes
Dirty or clogged pool filter, Closed or partially closed return valves, Undersized return plumbing, Blocked return fittings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the pump before adjusting valves or servicing the filter.
- Backwash or clean filter: For sand or DE filters, perform a full backwash per manufacturer instructions. For cartridge filters, remove and hose off or replace cartridges.
- Open return valves: Ensure all return-side valves are fully open to reduce backpressure.
- Inspect return fittings: Check pool return eyeballs for obstructions or overly small openings; adjust or replace as needed.
- Verify pump sizing: Confirm the Harris pump is not oversized for the existing plumbing and filter; excessive flow can raise pressure.
Operate the pump at a lower speed on variable-speed models to reduce system pressure if needed.
