Harris
Suction-Side Air Leak / Priming Failure
Pump will not prime; pump pot does not fill with water and pump makes a gurgling sound

Possible Causes
Damaged or dry pump lid o-ring, Loose suction union, Cracked suction plumbing, Low water level in pool allowing air into skimmer
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before opening the pump lid or adjusting valves.
- Check pool water level: Ensure the water level is at least halfway up the skimmer opening so the skimmer does not draw air.
- Inspect and lubricate lid o-ring: Remove the Harris pump lid, clean the o-ring and lid groove, and apply a thin coat of pool-safe silicone lubricant. Replace the o-ring if cracked or flattened.
- Tighten suction unions: Hand-tighten the suction-side union at the pump. If it is still loose or leaking, remove, inspect the union o-ring, and replace if damaged.
- Prime the pump: Fill the pump pot completely with water, reinstall the lid, open all suction and return valves, then restart the pump and allow several minutes for priming.
If the pump still will not prime, there may be a hidden suction-side leak or underground plumbing issue that requires a pressure test.
