Possible Causes
Failed start capacitor in PowerFlo motor, Debris jammed in PowerFlo impeller, Seized motor bearings in PowerFlo motor, Low supply voltage to PowerFlo pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and confirm the pump is de‑energized before opening anything.
- Check for impeller blockage: Remove the strainer lid and basket from the PowerFlo. Reach into the suction side (do not use sharp tools) and feel for debris in the impeller vanes. Remove any stones, twigs, or plastic pieces.
- Spin the shaft: At the rear of the PowerFlo motor, remove the fan cover if present and try to rotate the shaft by hand. If it is locked, the bearings are likely seized and the motor must be replaced.
- Inspect/replace capacitor: Remove the rear cover on the PowerFlo motor to access the start capacitor. If it is swollen, cracked, or leaking oil, replace it with the exact µF and voltage rating specified on the original.
- Restore power and test: After reassembly, restore power and briefly start the pump. If it still only hums, disconnect power and consult a technician for motor replacement.
