Possible Causes
Long-term leakage past mechanical seal, Aggressive water chemistry attacking metal, Use of incorrect or low-quality shaft seal, Running pump with leak for extended periods
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and disconnect the pump from electrical supply before disassembly.
- Disassemble wet end: Remove the PowerFlo motor from the housing and take off the impeller and seal components.
- Inspect shaft: Examine the motor shaft where the seal rides. If it is pitted or heavily rusted, a new seal will not last.
- Replace motor: Replace the PowerFlo motor assembly so the new shaft provides a smooth sealing surface. Install a new, correct mechanical seal at the same time.
- Balance water chemistry: Maintain proper pH, alkalinity, and calcium hardness to reduce corrosion.
