Possible Causes
Air leak at PowerFlo pump lid O-ring, Loose or cracked suction union fitting on PowerFlo housing, Low pool water level allowing air into skimmer, Clogged skimmer basket or pump strainer basket
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the pump before opening the lid or valves.
- Check pool water level: Ensure the water level is at least halfway up the skimmer opening so the skimmer does not suck air.
- Clean baskets: Empty the skimmer basket(s) and the PowerFlo pump strainer basket. Debris can restrict flow and prevent proper priming.
- Inspect lid O-ring: Remove the PowerFlo strainer lid, clean the O-ring and sealing surface, and apply a thin coat of pool-safe silicone lubricant. Replace the O-ring if it is cracked or flattened.
- Check suction fittings: Inspect the suction-side union or hose connection at the PowerFlo pump for cracks or looseness. Tighten unions by hand plus a small additional turn; replace cracked fittings or hoses.
- Prime the pump: With the lid off, fill the PowerFlo strainer housing with water from a hose, reinstall the lid, open all suction valves, and start the pump. It may take 1–3 minutes to fully prime.
