Possible Causes
Shorted motor windings in PowerFlo motor, Impeller jam causing locked rotor, Incorrectly sized breaker for PowerFlo amp draw, Water intrusion into motor wiring compartment
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset a breaker that trips. Turn off power and investigate.
- Check for mechanical jam: Remove the PowerFlo pump lid and basket, and inspect for debris in the impeller. Try turning the motor shaft by hand with power off. If it is locked, clear debris or plan for motor replacement.
- Inspect wiring compartment: Remove the rear cover and check for moisture, corrosion, or burnt wires. Dry and repair as needed; severe damage usually requires motor replacement.
- Verify breaker size: Compare the motor nameplate amps to the breaker rating. Upgrade wiring and breaker only if undersized and in accordance with electrical codes.
- Motor test: If the breaker trips even with the pump disconnected from plumbing (no load), the motor windings are likely shorted and the motor should be replaced.
