Possible Causes
Disconnected or reversed RS-485 wiring, Broken communication cable, Incorrect address or configuration, Faulty communication port on pump or controller
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to both the pump and the automation system before working on wiring.
- Check cable connections: Verify that the RS-485 cable is securely connected to the communication terminals on both the Hayward pump and the automation panel (e.g., OmniLogic, ProLogic).
- Polarity: Ensure the A/B (or +/–) terminals are wired consistently on both ends. Reversed polarity will prevent communication.
- Inspect cable: Look for cuts, kinks, or water damage along the communication cable. Replace if damaged.
- Address settings: Confirm the pump’s address or ID is correctly set in the automation configuration and does not conflict with other devices.
- Standalone test: Disconnect the RS-485 cable and try operating the pump from its local keypad. If it works locally but not via automation, the issue is likely in the automation system or cabling.
