Possible Causes
Cracked suction union on Hurlcon pump, Perished pump lid O-ring, Loose threaded fittings, Suction line leak above water level
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off pump before tightening or removing any fittings.
- Inspect lid seal: Clean and lubricate the pump lid O-ring and ensure the lid is tightened evenly.
- Check unions: Hand-tighten the suction and discharge unions on the Hurlcon pump. Do not overtighten with tools.
- Soap test: With the pump running, apply soapy water to joints on the suction side. Bubbles being sucked in indicate an air leak.
Persistent air leaks in underground suction lines require a pool plumber to locate and repair.
