Possible Causes
Impeller jammed by debris, Worn motor bearings, Water intrusion into motor, Incorrect supply voltage causing overload
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the pump and close valves before opening the pump housing.
- Open pump housing: Remove the strainer cover and basket. Inspect the impeller area for stones, twigs, or other debris. Remove any obstructions.
- Check impeller movement: With power off, spin the impeller by hand. It should rotate smoothly without grinding. If it is stiff, the bearings or shaft seal may be failing.
- Inspect for water in motor: Look for rust streaks or water inside the motor end bell. Water intrusion usually requires replacing the pump motor assembly.
- Verify voltage: Ensure the pump is connected to the correct voltage supply and not through an undersized extension cord.
- Reassemble and test: After clearing debris, reassemble, prime the pump, and test. If E20 returns, replace the pump motor assembly.
