Possible Causes

Loose control panel cable connection, Corroded control panel connector pins, Faulty control panel PCB, Faulty pump motor control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the Intex pool pump from the mains before opening or touching any internal components. Never work on the pump while it is connected to power or while you are standing in water.

  • Power reset: Unplug the pump for at least 10 minutes to discharge internal electronics. Plug back in and try again. Sometimes E90 is a transient communication fault.
  • Check cable connections: Inspect the cable between the control panel and the pump housing (if external). Ensure the plug is fully seated and the locking ring (if present) is tightened. Look for bent or corroded pins.
  • Dry and clean connectors: If you see moisture or light corrosion, dry the area thoroughly and clean the pins gently with a soft brush and isopropyl alcohol. Allow to dry completely before reconnecting.
  • Inspect control panel: Check the control panel for cracks, water ingress, or burned spots. If the display flickers or buttons are unresponsive along with E90, the control panel PCB may be failing.
  • Test on a different outlet: Plug the pump into a known-good outlet with proper grounding and no extension cord to rule out power quality issues.
  • Replace electronics if needed: If E90 persists after reseating cables and drying connectors, the fault is likely on the control panel PCB or motor control board. Replace the control panel assembly first; if that does not resolve it, replace the pump motor control board or complete pump motor assembly.
