Possible Causes
Incorrect replacement motor or board installed, Shorted motor windings, Faulty motor position sensor (on variable-speed models)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before working on the pump.
- Confirm correct parts: If you recently replaced the motor or control board, verify that the part numbers match your exact Intex model. Using an incompatible board or motor can trigger E98.
- Inspect motor wiring: Check all motor leads and connectors for loose or damaged wires. Ensure all plugs are fully seated.
- Check for mechanical seizure: With power off, remove the strainer cover and verify the impeller spins freely by hand. A seized motor can cause E98.
- Replace assembly: If the motor is shorted or incompatible, replace the entire pump motor assembly with the correct Intex part number. If the motor is good but E98 persists, replace the motor control board.
