Possible Causes
Debris jammed in impeller, Seized motor bearings, Failed start capacitor (if equipped), Low supply voltage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Immediately unplug the pump if it hums without starting to avoid overheating.
- Check for obstructions: Remove the strainer cover and basket. Inspect the impeller area for stones, toys, or other debris. Remove any blockage.
- Spin impeller by hand: With power disconnected, gently rotate the impeller. If it is stiff or does not move, the motor bearings may be seized and the pump motor assembly will need replacement.
- Verify voltage and cord: Ensure the pump is plugged directly into a proper outlet without undersized extension cords.
- Test again briefly: After clearing debris, reassemble and briefly power on. If it still only hums, discontinue use and replace the pump motor assembly.
