Possible Causes

Loss of prime due to air leak, Closed suction valve, Blocked skimmer or main drain, Very low pool water level

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker. Running a pump dry can quickly damage seals and the impeller.

  • Restore water level:
    • Fill the pool to proper level (mid-skimmer opening).
  • Open all suction valves:
    • Verify Jandy suction valves are fully open to at least one main drain or skimmer.
  • Clean baskets and check for blockages:
    • Clean skimmer baskets and the Jandy pump strainer basket.
    • Inspect the skimmer throat and main drain for visible obstructions.
  • Check for air leaks:
    • Inspect and lubricate the pump lid O-ring.
    • Tighten suction-side unions and fittings.
  • Re-prime the pump:
    • Fill the pump housing with water, reinstall lid, open valves, and restart.
  • If DRY returns: There may be a suction line leak or underground blockage. Have a pool professional perform pressure testing and further diagnostics.
