Possible Causes
Blocked motor ventilation, High ambient temperature with poor airflow, Overloaded motor due to high system pressure, Failing motor bearings causing excess current draw
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and allow the motor to cool completely before touching it. Do not pour water directly on a hot motor.
- Improve ventilation:
- Clear leaves, dirt, and debris from around the Jandy pump motor vents.
- Ensure the equipment pad is not enclosed without ventilation; open doors or panels if in a shed.
- Check system pressure and flow:
- Read the filter pressure gauge; if very high, clean/backwash the filter to reduce load on the pump.
- Verify all return valves are open to reduce backpressure.
- Inspect motor condition:
- With power off, spin the motor shaft (from the back or via the fan) by hand; it should turn smoothly.
- If it feels rough, seized, or noisy, the bearings are likely failing and the motor should be replaced.
- Restart after cooling:
- After at least 30–60 minutes of cooling and after correcting airflow/pressure issues, restore power and restart the pump.
- If HOT recurs quickly: The motor windings may be damaged or the pump is oversized for the plumbing. Replace the motor or complete pump assembly and have a technician verify sizing.
