Possible Causes
Defective start capacitor, Seized motor bearings, Low supply voltage, Stuck impeller
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker. Capacitors can hold a charge; if you are not experienced with electrical work, contact a professional.
- Check for seized motor:
- With power off, try to spin the motor shaft or fan by hand.
- If it will not turn, the motor is seized and must be replaced.
- Inspect impeller for blockage:
- Remove pump lid and basket, reach into the impeller opening, and clear any debris.
- Test/replace capacitor:
- Locate the start/run capacitor on the motor.
- Discharge it safely and test with a capacitance meter, or replace with an identical Jandy-specified value.
- Restore power and test:
- If the motor now starts smoothly, monitor for normal operation.
- If it still only hums: Replace the motor or complete pump assembly.
