Pump motor housing is excessively hot to the touch even though it is running normally.

Safety first: Turn off power and allow the motor to cool before touching it. Some warmth is normal; too hot to touch for more than a second is excessive.

• Improve airflow:
  • Clear debris and obstructions around the motor.
  • Provide shade or ventilation if in an enclosed area.
• Reduce load:
  • Clean/backwash filter to lower system pressure.
  • On VS pumps, reduce RPM and use longer run times instead of high speed for short periods.
• Monitor operation:
  • If overheating persists, motor insulation may be degrading; plan for motor replacement.
