Possible Causes

Worn or cracked Kripsol mechanical seal faces, Running pump dry causing seal overheating, Chemical imbalance (low pH) attacking seal materials, Misalignment or debris on seal faces during prior service

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power and close valves before disassembling the pump. Allow the motor to cool.

  • Confirm leak source: Dry the area and observe. If water emerges from the weep hole or seam between the Kripsol pump housing and motor flange, the mechanical seal is the likely culprit.
  • Disassemble wet end: Remove the pump lid, basket, and housing bolts. Separate the wet end from the motor. Remove the impeller (often by holding the shaft at the rear and unscrewing the impeller).
  • Replace seal: Press out the old stationary seal from the housing and slide the rotating seal half off the shaft. Clean the seal seat and shaft. Install a new genuine Kripsol mechanical seal kit, handling the polished faces carefully and avoiding fingerprints.
  • Reassemble: Reinstall the impeller, housing gasket, and bolts. Prime the pump and check for leaks.

If you are not comfortable with pump disassembly, a pool technician can replace the seal quickly with the correct Kripsol kit.
