Possible Causes
Worn or cracked mechanical seal faces, Seal damaged by dry running, Incorrect installation of Lowara seal kit, Corrosion or scoring on shaft sleeve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate power and close valves before working on the pump. Expect water spillage when separating the pump.
- Confirm leak source: Dry the area and observe. If water emerges from the weep hole or joint between motor and pump housing, the mechanical seal is the likely culprit.
- Disassemble pump: Remove the motor from the pump housing following Lowara’s instructions. Take note of the order of parts.
- Replace seal: Remove the old mechanical seal components from the impeller and housing. Clean all surfaces and install a new Lowara‑specified mechanical seal, taking care not to touch the seal faces with bare fingers.
- Inspect shaft sleeve: Check for grooves or corrosion where the seal runs. Replace the sleeve or impeller if damaged.
- Reassemble and test: Reassemble the pump, re‑prime, and run while checking for leaks.
