Possible Causes
Blocked impeller causing high load, partially closed return valve, undersized pipework causing high head, internal motor short
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Isolate power and relieve system pressure before opening any part of the hydraulic circuit.
- Check valves: Ensure suction and return valves are fully open. A partially closed valve can overload the pump.
- Inspect filter pressure: Read the pressure gauge on the Onga sand or cartridge filter. If pressure is high, backwash (sand) or clean/replace the cartridge to reduce system head.
- Clean pump basket and impeller: Remove the pump lid and basket. Clear debris. If flow is still poor, remove the pump wet end housing and inspect the Onga impeller for blockages (hair, leaves, plastic). Clean thoroughly.
- Check for airlocks: Ensure the pump is fully primed and not cavitating, which can cause unstable load. Fill the pump housing with water before restarting.
If E05 persists with clean hydraulics and normal pressure, the motor windings or drive electronics may be failing and the motor assembly should be evaluated for replacement.
