Possible Causes

Defective start capacitor, seized motor bearings, jammed Onga impeller, low supply voltage

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Immediately switch off power if the motor hums without starting. Do not repeatedly reset breakers.

  • Check for free rotation: With power OFF, remove the pump basket and try to spin the impeller or rear motor fan by hand. If jammed, clear debris or consider bearing replacement.
  • Inspect capacitor: Open the capacitor housing on the Onga motor and look for bulging or leaking. Replace with the correct µF rating if faulty.
  • Verify supply: Avoid using long, thin extension cords. Ensure the pump is on a dedicated circuit with correct voltage.

If the motor still only hums after capacitor replacement and mechanical checks, the windings are likely damaged and the motor should be replaced.
