Possible Causes

Worn ceramic/carbon shaft seal, dry-running damage, misaligned motor to pump housing

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Isolate power and close valves or plug lines to prevent flooding before disassembly.

  • Confirm leak source: Dry the pump and observe. If water emerges from the join between the Onga wet end and motor, the shaft seal is likely leaking.
  • Disassemble wet end: Remove the pump from the plumbing if necessary. Separate the wet end from the motor by undoing the housing bolts.
  • Remove impeller: Hold the motor shaft at the rear (often with a spanner on the shaft flat) and unscrew the impeller from the shaft.
  • Replace shaft seal: Remove the old ceramic seat from the housing and the rotating carbon face from the impeller. Install a genuine Onga shaft seal kit, taking care not to touch the sealing faces with bare fingers.
  • Reassemble: Refit the impeller and housing, ensuring all O-rings are in place. Reconnect plumbing and prime the pump before starting.

Persistent leaks after seal replacement may indicate a cracked housing or scored shaft and may require additional parts.
