Possible Causes
Incorrect speed programming causing excessive load, Blocked impeller in Pahlén pump, Shorted motor windings, Incorrect supply voltage to drive
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before opening the drive enclosure or pump terminal box.
- Check for blockage: Remove the pump strainer basket and inspect for debris. If necessary, open the wet end to ensure the impeller rotates freely and is not obstructed.
- Review speed settings: On the Pahlén variable-speed controller, reduce the maximum RPM or flow setpoint to factory-recommended levels. Avoid running at maximum speed against a highly restricted system.
- Verify filter and valves: Clean the filter and fully open return valves to reduce system resistance and motor load.
- Inspect motor: If the motor housing is extremely hot or emits a burnt smell, internal windings may be damaged. Do not continue to reset E05; seek professional evaluation.
- Reset the drive: After correcting mechanical load issues, power cycle the drive and clear E05 via the control interface. Monitor current draw if the drive displays it.
