Possible Causes
Air leak at pump lid O-ring, Suction line drawing air, Pool water level too low, Blocked skimmer or main drain feeding Pahlén pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Always turn off power before opening the pump lid. Never allow the pump to run without water; this can damage the mechanical seal.
- Check pool level: Ensure water level is adequate to cover skimmer openings. Top up the pool if necessary.
- Inspect pump lid and O-ring: Remove the Pahlén pump lid, clean the sealing surface and O-ring, and apply a thin layer of silicone-based lubricant. Replace cracked or flattened O-rings.
- Check suction fittings: Tighten unions and fittings on the suction side. Even small air leaks can prevent proper priming.
- Prime the pump: Fill the pump strainer housing completely with water, reinstall the lid, open any air bleed valves, and then restore power. Observe through the lid to confirm the housing fills with water and remains full.
- Reset E09: Clear the error on the controller and verify that the pump continues to run with a solid water column.
