Pahlén pool pump runs but there is very low water flow at the pool returns

Safety first: Turn off the pump at the breaker before opening the pump lid or filter.

• Clean skimmer and pump baskets: Remove all debris from skimmer baskets and the Pahlén pump strainer basket. Ensure baskets are not cracked or collapsing.
• Service the filter: Backwash a sand filter until the sight glass runs clear, or hose off/replace a cartridge filter element. Follow Pahlén or filter manufacturer instructions.
• Check valves: Confirm that all return and bypass valves are fully open and that no actuator has accidentally closed a line.
• Inspect impeller: If flow is still low, isolate the pump, remove the wet end cover, and inspect the impeller vanes for hair, leaves, or scale buildup. Clean carefully.

After reassembly, reprime the Pahlén pump and verify that flow at the returns has improved.
