Possible Causes

Supply voltage above pump rating, Incorrect transformer tap or service wiring, Loose neutral or bonding issues, Utility voltage spikes

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: High voltage can cause severe injury. If you are not comfortable using a multimeter, contact a licensed electrician.

  • Confirm nameplate voltage: Check the Pentair Sta‑Rite pump label (e.g., IntelliPro VS‑SR) for rated voltage (usually 230V only). Ensure the breaker and supply are not 277V or 3‑phase.
  • Measure line voltage: With power on and pump off, measure line‑to‑line voltage at the pump terminals. If it exceeds the rated voltage by more than 10%, do not run the pump.
  • Inspect panel connections: Turn power off. In the sub‑panel, check that the pump is connected to the correct double‑pole breaker and not across an incorrect phase or high‑leg. Tighten all breaker and neutral bar screws.
  • Check for mis‑wired transformer or booster: If a step‑up/step‑down transformer is used, verify taps are set for correct primary and secondary voltages per the transformer diagram.
  • Surge protection: If E02 appears intermittently during storms or heavy utility load changes, install a whole‑house or sub‑panel surge protector and a line conditioner if recommended by your electrician.
  • Reset and test: After correcting wiring, restore power and clear the error by cycling power to the pump. If E02 persists with correct voltage, the drive control module may be defective.
