Pump stops during operation and displays E05

Warning: Components may be hot. Allow the pump to cool before touching the motor or drive housing.

• Check ventilation: Ensure the Sta‑Rite pump has adequate clearance around the motor and drive (per manual, typically at least several inches on all sides). Remove any leaves, plastic, or insulation blocking airflow.
• Clean cooling fins: With power off, use a soft brush or compressed air to clean dust and debris from the motor housing and drive heat sink fins. Do not force water into the electronics.
• Inspect internal fan (if equipped): Some variable‑speed models have an internal fan. Listen for fan operation when the pump starts. If the fan does not run or makes grinding noises, the drive module may need replacement.
• Reduce ambient heat: If the pump is in a closed shed or equipment room, improve ventilation or add a vent fan. Avoid direct sun on the drive by providing shade (without blocking airflow).
• Check load: Excessive backpressure from closed valves or dirty filter can increase motor load and heat. Verify return valves are open and backwash or clean the filter.
• Reset: After cooling and cleaning, restore power and restart. If E05 recurs quickly, the temperature sensor or drive board may be faulty.
