Possible Causes

Incorrect RS‑485 wiring to automation system, Reversed polarity on communication terminals, Faulty automation controller port, Damaged communication cable

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power to both the pump and the automation system before working on wiring.

  • Verify wiring diagram: Consult the Pentair Sta‑Rite IntelliPro VS‑SR manual and your automation system manual (e.g., Pentair EasyTouch, IntelliCenter). Confirm the RS‑485 A/B and +/‑ terminals are wired correctly.
  • Check polarity: Ensure the A (or +) terminal on the automation panel goes to the A (or +) on the pump, and B (or ‑) to B (or ‑). Reversed wires can cause E10.
  • Inspect cable: Look for cuts, splices, or water‑filled conduit. Replace damaged low‑voltage cable with twisted pair rated for outdoor use.
  • Test in standalone mode: Disconnect the RS‑485 wires at the pump and power it up. If the pump runs normally from its keypad with no E10, the issue is in the automation system or wiring.
  • Check automation port: Try another RS‑485 port on the automation controller if available. If all wiring is correct and E10 only appears when connected, the controller port may be defective.
