Possible Causes
Locked rotor from seized bearings or impeller, Prolonged overload, Incorrect voltage supply, Ventilation blocked
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Danger: Immediately turn off power at the breaker. Do not continue to run a smoking motor.
- Allow to cool: Let the motor cool completely before touching or opening it.
- Check for mechanical seizure: Try to rotate the motor shaft by hand. If it is seized, inspect bearings and impeller for causes.
- Inspect windings: Remove the motor end cover and look for darkened or burnt windings. A burnt smell usually indicates irreversible damage.
- Replace motor: If windings are burnt or insulation is damaged, replace the motor assembly. Also correct any underlying issues (blocked impeller, high system pressure, incorrect voltage).
