Pump trips the circuit breaker immediately when turned on

Danger: Repeated breaker tripping indicates a serious electrical fault. If you are not qualified, contact an electrician or pool professional.

• Visual inspection: With power off, remove the motor wiring cover. Look for burnt wires, melted insulation, or water inside the junction box.
• Check cable condition: Inspect the cable from the panel to the pump for cuts or crushed sections. Replace if damaged.
• Verify wiring: Confirm that the Sta‑Rite pump is wired according to its nameplate (correct voltage and connections). Miswiring a 230V motor to 115V or vice versa can cause high current draw.
• Insulation test (advanced): A technician can perform a megohm test between motor leads and ground. Low resistance indicates a shorted motor that must be replaced.
• Do not upsize breaker: Never install a larger breaker to stop nuisance tripping; fix the underlying fault.
