Pump will not start; display shows E01 immediately after power-up.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the pool sub‑panel breaker and verify with a non-contact voltage tester before touching the pump.
Steps to check for a locked rotor or overcurrent condition:
- 1. Inspect for external blockage: Remove the pump lid, take out the basket, and check for rocks, leaves, or plastic stuck in the volute or around the impeller eye. Clear all debris.
- 2. Check motor shaft rotation: With power OFF and lid/basket removed, reach the motor shaft at the back (fan end) or through the pump housing (depending on model). Try to rotate the shaft by hand or with a screwdriver on the shaft slot. It should turn smoothly with slight resistance. If it is frozen or very stiff, the bearings or rotor may be seized.
- 3. Verify free impeller movement: If the shaft is hard to turn, separate the motor from the pump housing (remove the clamp band or housing bolts). Inspect the impeller for melted plastic, foreign objects, or signs of rubbing on the diffuser. Clean and reassemble.
- 4. Check supply voltage and wiring: Confirm the pump is wired for the correct voltage (115/230 V as per the SuperFlo nameplate). Use a multimeter at the terminal block to ensure proper voltage and tight connections. Undervoltage or miswiring can cause overcurrent trips.
- 5. Test again: Restore power and attempt to start the pump. If E01 returns immediately and the shaft is free, the motor windings or drive electronics are likely damaged and the motor/drive assembly should be replaced.
When to stop: If you smell burnt insulation, see scorch marks on the drive, or the shaft remains locked, discontinue use and contact a qualified pool technician or electrician.
