Pump display shows E04 and the motor does not start or shuts down quickly.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and verify with a meter before touching any wiring.
Steps to address overvoltage:
- 1. Verify correct supply voltage: Check the pump nameplate for required voltage. Confirm the breaker and supply wiring match this rating. Do not connect a 230 V-only SuperFlo VS to a higher voltage source.
- 2. Measure voltage at the pump: With power ON (use caution), use a multimeter to measure line-to-line voltage at the pump terminals. If it exceeds the rated voltage by more than 10%, shut off power and contact an electrician or utility provider.
- 3. Inspect wiring configuration: Ensure there is no miswiring such as tying into a wild leg or incorrect phase. Follow Pentair’s wiring diagram exactly.
- 4. Check panel and breaker: Look for signs of overheating, corrosion, or loose lugs in the service panel. Tighten connections and replace damaged components as needed (by a qualified electrician).
Do not continue to run the pump with E04 present; prolonged overvoltage can permanently damage the drive and motor. Once supply voltage is corrected, clear the error by cycling power. If E04 persists with correct voltage, the drive module may be defective.
