Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Immediately turn off power at the breaker. Do not attempt to run the pump until the ground fault condition is resolved.
Steps to investigate ground fault:
- 1. Inspect for visible moisture: Check around the motor, conduit entry, and junction box for water. Dry any visible moisture and correct sources of leaks (sprinklers, roof runoff, etc.).
- 2. Check conduit and fittings: Ensure the electrical conduit is properly sealed and not filled with water. Replace cracked fittings and use appropriate sealing methods.
- 3. Insulation resistance test (advanced): A qualified electrician can perform a megohm test between motor leads and ground to determine if the motor windings are compromised.
- 4. Verify GFCI breaker operation: If the pump is on a GFCI breaker, test and reset the breaker. Persistent trips indicate a real leakage issue, not a nuisance trip.
Do not bypass ground fault protection. If E08 or GFCI trips continue after drying and correcting external moisture issues, the motor/drive assembly is likely compromised and should be replaced.
