Possible Causes
Shorted motor windings, Seized or partially seized bearings, Incorrectly sized breaker or wiring, Pump running against closed valves or blocked discharge
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset a tripping breaker. Turn off power and investigate the cause.
- 1. Check for mechanical load: Ensure all suction and return valves are open and the filter is clean. A blocked discharge can overload the motor.
- 2. Inspect motor rotation: With power OFF, spin the motor shaft by hand. If stiff or rough, bearings may be failing and causing overload.
- 3. Verify breaker and wire size: Confirm the breaker amperage and wire gauge match Pentair’s installation requirements for the SuperFlo model.
- 4. Measure running current: A qualified technician can use a clamp meter to measure motor current. If it exceeds nameplate amps with normal load, the motor windings may be failing and the motor should be replaced.
