Pool pump / heat pump stops and display shows HP; unit may shut down shortly after starting, especially in hot weather or with restricted water flow.

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and lock it out before opening any panels. Do not work on refrigerant lines; that requires an EPA‑certified technician.

• Check water flow: Ensure the main circulation pump is running at full prime. Open all return valves to the pool and spa. Clean the pool filter (backwash sand/DE or clean cartridges) to restore proper flow through the Raypak unit.
• Inspect inlet/outlet valves on the Raypak heat pump: Confirm the service valves to and from the Raypak heat pump are fully open and that any bypass valve is correctly set so adequate flow passes through the heat exchanger.
• Clean the condenser coil (air side): With power off, remove debris from the coil fins using a soft brush or low‑pressure hose from the inside out. Do not bend fins. Maintain at least 24" of clearance around the unit for airflow.
• Reset the unit: After restoring flow and airflow, restore power and reset the control (follow the Raypak control panel instructions). If HP returns quickly, the high‑pressure switch or refrigerant system may be at fault.
• When to call a pro: If HP persists after cleaning and verifying valves and filter, contact a qualified Raypak service technician to test the high‑pressure switch and refrigerant charge.
