Possible Causes

Jammed impeller, Foreign object in volute, Shorted motor windings, Bearing seizure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power and verify the pump cannot start unexpectedly.

  • Open wet end: Remove the pump lid and basket. If necessary, remove the volute cover to access the impeller. Clear any debris wrapped around the impeller or lodged in the diffuser.
  • Check shaft rotation: Turn the motor shaft by hand. If it is locked or extremely stiff, the motor is likely failed and should be replaced.
  • Inspect for water intrusion: Look for signs of water in the motor housing or rust at the shaft seal area. A failed mechanical seal can lead to motor failure.
  • Reassemble and test: After clearing obstructions, reassemble with new gaskets or O‑rings as needed, prime the pump, and test. If OC persists, replace the motor/drive assembly.
