Possible Causes
Air leak on suction side, Low water level in pool, Clogged skimmer or pump basket, Suction valve partially closed
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before opening the pump lid.
- Fill pump with water: Remove the pump lid and fill the strainer housing completely with water. Replace the lid, ensuring the lid O‑ring is clean and lubricated.
- Check water level: Make sure the pool water level is at least halfway up the skimmer opening to prevent air from being drawn in.
- Inspect suction fittings: Tighten all unions and fittings on the suction side. Look for cracks in the pump lid, suction pipe, or skimmer that could draw air.
- Clean baskets: Empty the skimmer and pump baskets. Check for blockages in the suction line by using a drain king or similar tool if necessary.
- Re‑prime and restart: Restore power and allow the Raypak pump to run its priming cycle. If Pr persists, a more serious suction leak or underground line issue may require a pool professional.
