Possible Causes
Closed or partially closed return valves, Severely clogged pool filter, Undersized return plumbing causing excessive backpressure, Blocked heater or Rheem heat pump exchanger downstream of pump
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF the pump before adjusting valves or opening any filter or heater equipment.
- Check return valves: Ensure all return and bypass valves are fully open. Slowly open any partially closed valves while monitoring filter pressure.
- Clean or backwash filter: If the filter pressure is 8–10 psi above clean pressure, backwash (sand/DE) or clean cartridges thoroughly. Replace worn cartridges if they do not clean up.
- Inspect downstream equipment: If a Rheem pool heater or heat pump is installed, check for blocked internal bypass or scale buildup. Follow the heater manual for flushing or descaling procedures.
- Verify plumbing size: Confirm that return lines are not reduced to very small diameters or kinked. Correct any obvious restrictions.
- Reset pump: After restoring normal flow, clear the E08 by cycling power and restart. If the error recurs with normal pressures, the pressure sensor or control may be faulty.
