Possible Causes
Water ingress into Rheem keypad, Damaged keypad ribbon cable, Corroded interface connector on control board, Failed LCD or touch membrane
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF power before removing the keypad or control cover.
- Inspect keypad surface: Look for cracks, cloudiness, or water droplets under the lens. Any sign of moisture indicates the keypad assembly should be replaced.
- Check ribbon cable: Gently unplug the keypad ribbon from the control board, inspect for corrosion or bent contacts, clean if needed, and reseat firmly.
- Dry the interface: If minor moisture is present, dry the area with a soft cloth and allow several hours in a dry environment before re‑energizing.
- Test operation: Restore power and test all buttons. If E17 persists or keys remain unresponsive, replace the Rheem keypad/user interface assembly.
- Seal against future moisture: Ensure gaskets and mounting surfaces are clean and properly compressed when installing the new keypad.
