Possible Causes
Worn or cracked Rheem pump lid O‑ring, Loose suction‑side unions, Air leak at suction valve stem or fittings, Low pool water level causing vortexing at skimmer
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF the pump before opening the lid or adjusting valves.
- Inspect lid O‑ring: Remove the pump lid, clean the groove and sealing surface, and examine the O‑ring for cracks or flattening. Replace and lubricate with silicone if worn.
- Tighten suction unions: Hand‑tighten unions on the suction side of the Rheem pump. Do not overtighten to the point of cracking.
- Check water level: Maintain pool water at least halfway up the skimmer opening to prevent air from being drawn in.
- Test for leaks: With the pump running, apply soapy water around suspected joints; bubbles being sucked in indicate a leak. Reseal or replace fittings as needed.
- Reprime the pump: Fill the pump housing with water, reinstall the lid, open all valves, and restart while monitoring for stable, bubble‑free operation.
