Possible Causes
Clogged Rheem pump strainer basket, Blocked skimmer or main drain line, Severely dirty pool filter, Partially closed suction or return valves
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF the pump before opening any lids or valves.
- Clean all baskets: Remove and thoroughly clean the skimmer basket(s) and the Rheem pump basket. Ensure no debris is lodged in the suction port.
- Backwash or clean filter: If the filter pressure is high, backwash (sand/DE) or clean cartridge elements. Replace cartridges if they remain clogged.
- Verify valve positions: Confirm all suction and return valves are fully open. Adjust any diverter valves to ensure adequate flow from skimmers and main drain.
- Check for line blockage: If one suction line has no flow, try isolating it with valves. Persistent blockage may require a professional to clear the line.
- Prime the pump: Fill the Rheem pump housing with water, reinstall the lid, and restart. Observe for strong flow at returns.
